Have you heard these words before?
I am sure you have. Not in that precise order of course.
For those who must be living under a rock, the title of this article is a wordplay on famous lines from Spiderman movies, With great power comes great responsibility.
But the reverse stands true also.
Consider any area of your life, in which you are looking to improve or progress further.
Take your health.
You know you are unhealthy and must exercise. But you don’t. It’s hard. I know, that’s why we don’t see more people roaming around flaunting six-pack abs. It takes intense focus and consistency to build one.
Now, we all know that this is hard.
Even after knowing that this is hard, you decide to take on this challenge.
Just think about it for a moment.
You get fed up with your round belly and decide that you want to sculpt your abdomen like that of a Greek God. You want to prove to yourself and the world that you can transform.
You rise up and take a vow that you will get healthy and go to the gym for 365 days for the entire next year.
What happens when you do this?
You feel the excitement rushing through your body.
You have taken a huge responsibility upon yourself now and this will immediately add a little bit of confidence in you.
Because you have undertaken such an immense task, your subconscious will make you believe that you must have the power to achieve it. You feel powerful.
All due to the fact that you decided to undertake increased responsibility.
Here’s what James Clear says about this:
Increase your responsibility, and see your life change gradually in a positive manner.
We limit ourselves by expecting too little of ourselves.
Aiming low and putting low levels of responsibility on ourselves is the norm.
We shirk away from it as we are lazy. We know somewhere in our hearts and mind that when we expect more from ourselves we have to face challenges and difficulties. Our mind tries to protect us from this. It keeps us chained to our comfort zones.
But we must break away if we want to feel powerful. If we want to regain our power we must undertake huge problems, challenges, and responsibilities.
Now, I am not saying that you set an unrealistic level of responsibility upon yourself. That will lead to failure as you will not be ready. Do it gradually. The level of responsibility is relative. Don’t compare with others but see what is next level for you.
Whatever your current level of responsibility is just add +1 to it. That amount of increase should be enough to push you forward.
Be ready to feel more powerful.
I write daily here on my blog. There is no limit to the word count. I am not focusing on any topic here. I want to build a daily writing habit. This is Day 37of the Daily Writing Challenge in 2022.
